Maybe because I’m old…

Every time she is here for attending company’s courses or balik kampong, I will try to make myself available ie have lunch or have a short meet up with her who is my ex-roommate at university cum one of my closest friends too.

So she was here two days ago. We meet up over lunch at KLCC. We ate, talk, drink, ate, drink, talk and laught and sigh too over what life have happened to people around us. People that we know since university days. I have to admit that I made the right decision to see her.

Wanna know why? Because occasion /things like this are actually like a stress reliever and also like that get away vacation for the tired and mundane and routine one’s daily life. It’s like taking a short break from our daily life . And these breaks allow us to step back and look and ponder and think and analyse of what had happened inside and around our life.

There were sad stories and happy stories too. When I hear the sad stories like unsuccessful & unhappily-ever-after marriage & not till-death-do-us-part, it made me think of what actually had happened in those stories. I mean with what went wrong that their life stories has to end in a sad note.

One thing for sure, having a life partner who was your BF/GF during your uni days does not guarantee to eternal happy marriage. When love dies, so is the marriage. And the saddest part is when it is the children who have the heavy price for this broken marriage.

On a different note, another friend should have been there with us during our lunch. But she couldn’t come due to time constraint. I would have love to meet up with this friend of ours. And I was sad that she couldn’t join us. If things like this 5 years back, I would have been so upset and disappointed. But not now anymore. I guess these are petty issues to me right now. Why tied myself to something that is not happy and unproductive and useful.

Pen pals

Again, thanks to FB, I managed to be in touch again with my long lost penpals... Happy but sad at the same time when IYS , the company that run this wonderful services of penfriend is no longer operating. I googled them and found it's website. So it had closed its doors last year in 2008.

Back in in 80's and 90's , IYS and having pen pals were the in-thing . Now writing and sending letters to penpals are considered quaint. Emails , IM, YM and whatever with the net are now more attractive than snail mail. This is what we call modernisation and globalisation and whatever la.. ;)

I truly enjoy my penpal's days... How not to enjoy it when I received so many gifts from my wonderful penpals.

I love picking and buying all those beautiful papers and envelopes too...They came in all shapes and sizes and colors.. I like mine to be different. Not that i dont ever use the simple white letters.. I did. And so with the aerogrammes which is definitely cheaper than using paper notes. That was how i spent most of my pocket money and duit raya.. To save time and so that I don;t have to queue up long at post office, I always bought a lot of stamps and keep lostsa airmail stickers.

If my freinds have to buy some popstars stickers like NKOTB or Johnny Depp or Jason Donovan, I dont need too.. My penpals from US, UK and Germany were just too happy to send it to me.. And birthdays were always specials.. There were toiletries set, small parfumes, teddy bears and not forgetting cards .. I still have those precious gifts back at my parents's house. So are boxes of letters. Yep! my treasure junk..

One of them visited us in Malaysia. That was 6 years ago. Natascha my German friend came to Malaysia for her winter holidays. She came with her friendly partner. My hubby who was my boyfriend at that time, helped me to accompany them.. I still have our foursome pictures at the KLCC tower bridge. As a token for our hospitality , they gave me a book on Germany. Could be a hint for us to come and visit them there..

Btw, Danny is living happily with her partner back in German with a one kid..

And yesterday, another of my penpals replied my message on FB. What triggered me to find all my penpals was due to me being found by one of them. Nopi who is my Greek's penfriend, found me via FB.
And today I'm in touch again with my penfriend from US .

Looking at their current photos is just so great.. I used to see them as a teenager. But now they are all lovely women. Happily married with kids and living a wonderful lives.

Btw, I too joined Kuntum club.. The magazine is still around but not too sure if it is popular with school kids thesedays.. I can still remember which photo I sent to them. Response? Not bad also... And recently I found back my old Kuntum penfriend who is a Johorian. It seems that she was my cousin's college mate in Dungun..

Orait..Gotta go now.. Christine my US penfriend just sent me a message on FB.. Need to check it out..
Yeah...tgh cilok from my office work.. ;) hheheh

p/s: Just read Christine's message. Her eldest child's name is Emily. What a coincidence!

New house with new neighbours

I know it is still early to say this. But I'm kinda thankful and like my neighbours. The wives especially. Since the Malay families are the minority in my housing area community, we the ladies of the house have formed a email circle group. Thus, we will be replying & forwarding emails on a daily basis so far..

Of course there are one or two who are not so freindly & warm in personality. That can't be helped and avoided in any neighbourhood. But I am surprised to see that most of my DH ladies are really freindly and warm and easy to talk too. We all know how us women can detech straight away another person's personality during the 1st gathering or meeting. It's so easy to tell if that lady is bitchy or gatal type just by judging the way they talk and their body languages. For men it will be a different thing. Exclude my hubby pls :0

Last Saturday , one of the malay neighbours had a kenduri kesyukuran & house warming cum raya open house too. The food was home cooked & prepared by closed friends & neighbours too. What make it interesting was that we the ladies came to help on the night before the kenduri day.

It was interesting to see us busy talking about that event via emails on Friday. Imagine working ladies eager to come to that neighbour's house just to help with the cooking. It's like gotong royong for a kenduri at kampung! And yes, that was what the atmosphere was like at our neighbour's house on that malam Sabtu hari Jumaat.

There we were cutting onions, potatos, kunyit etc. It was so like mcm at kampung ... And it was a bit strange too as not very often we will experience this in this city life! For someone like me who used to grow up in kampung, all those things sounded so familiar to me.. It was so goood!!
Even my DH ladies too were having fun ...

What else do I like about my DH ladies so far? Well, at the very moments, Rini is busy checking for flight to Bandung. Yep! The DH ladies are planning a shopping trip to Bandung sans husbands & kids. It will be a 3 days 2 nites trip .

Am I going? Yes! That is after discussing it with my other half.. Only after much talk and discussion, did I decided to go. It's has never been easy to leave hubby & Arissa behind. And I always be feeling like this whenever I had to go for a business trip outstation. Will Arissa be ok? Will he be ok? Those are the kinds of questions that will go spinning inside my head.

Dearest hubby said take this as like a mini get-away for me . To relax and unwind and simply to enjoy myself with the other housewives. Shopping theraphy? I don't think so. Most of the time, it's me who end up not buying anything whenever I go shopping with others. How my sis and my friends will complain about this for making them spend so much !

Btw, what is DH? Well , I thought it was for D' Harmonives ... But it was actually Desperate Housewives!!

My Lil Tigress

I shouldn't be surprised when Arissa wanted to do face painting at Ezz's birthday party. That's what my hubby told me as our little girl is not a timid person. She may be quite during the 1st few minutes when meeting people. But after that, she will just be the confident, outgoing & cheeky person she is.

I'm glad that we came to Hanna's eldest son's birthday party last Saturday. Actually our times were tight on that saturday as my SIL too were throwing out her son's 5th birthday party.

We decided to attend Ezz's party 1st as it was held early. Plus it was near to our home. It was nice to see some of the mommies blogger again. I rarely be able to go and get invited as most of my weekends were always full of family activities. And less invitation as I don't get to blog & visit so many other mommies blogs as much as I could. I know there are many of them who able to this as they have easier internet access compare to mine which is only limited to office pc. It's sure different to see people in flesh rather than in photo.

Yep! Arissa was the 1st customer for the face painter. She had flowers design painted on her left arms 1st. I'll put up the picture in my next entry k.

Did she bother with the attention she got from people when we were at the 2nd birthday party? Nope at all.. Infact she roared at some of the curious people.. Older people & mothers were obviuosly like the painted face as they said how comel she looked. But babies, they got scared by her face.

Arissa, u sure had one of your best day outing last Saturday. U ran , jumped, slided down at Kidsport.

Jada Kyra

When u just have to do something, u really just have to do it straight away.

That was what happened to me last Monday when I got BeskotKeras's sms. She had just given birth to a healthy baby girl the night before. I was doing my work when the sms came through. Surprise surprise, She wasn't supposed to be due last week actually. But then, I guess, Allah knows better than most of us, especially the Doctor.

So I told myself that I have to pay them a visit. And it must be done by that Monday itself. I just can't afford to delay it till weekend as my weekends it so tight up with so many things to do for the new house. Infact I'm still tired today . And now I'm down with a bad sore throat and gonna be down with fever too. No voice for me today either.. ;(

Have I seen beskotkeras before? Yes, from blog & facebook. No , from real life. Jada, your parents are exactly like what i saw from the blog. And they are the same as what I have in my mind. Sorry I didn't kiss u as much as I wanna too. I had so many germs on my hands when I came to see u & your mommy.

It's nice to be able to see someone whom u have been corresponding with via internet. For me, I just had to visit her as I shared a lot of info on pregnancy & breastfeeding with her. In a way that I can't or hard for me to explain, I feel I owe it to myself to visit her when she has safely given birth . And I'm glad I saw her and her one that day.

Talk about gift for new mom & baby, people always tend to give gifts for baby. Of course the newborn baby is the VVIP after that delivery. And I agree with that. But part of me also says that the mother is also the VVIP . And normally , we mommies didn't get much meaningfull & usefull presents. Yeah, it is nice to get flowers. But flowers can't be keep for too long.

So I bought for her some toiletries from M&S , and got the Memory Lane's people to pack it up in a paper bag. Of course I did not forget lil Jada or JK( are u sure r going to call her that ? ) . For her a small teddy bear was packed together in that small paper bag.

For beskotkeras, I just wanna give her something that she can used later. Why this thoughts? well, my hubby's former boss gave me Cr'bT'ee toiletries when I gave birth to Arissa. I know it was his wife's idea. But that gift made me thinking. So many people give presents to Arissa. And I did get my flowers & balloon. But none actually gave me something that I can really use for myself. From that day on , I told myself to give the new mommies meaningful gifts whenever i can.

So beskotkeras, i do hope u like my gifts for u and for lil Jada too.

Sekolah Menengah Convent Seremban

One of my exclassmates from 3 Opal pasted this precious photo in Facebook. How it brings back loads of memories. How Shila can remember all the girls' full name. Amazing! Most of us are happily married with at least one child. One of us is a single mother . And one of us is no longer here with us.
I used to think what happen to most of my Convent girlfriends. There are a few of them that I still keep intouch now and then. But to those that seems so farfetch and out of reached, my heart misses them so much. At one point of my life, I dreamt one of my girlfriend when I was pregnant with my 1st child. I don't know why I wanted to see her so bad. It could be because her last address was in Bukit Damansara which is just here in KL la. I did try to look for her house with my hubby way back before Arissa was born. But somehow we didn't find it.. Funny how that area is not that big and yet we couldn't find it.. I even try searching for her in the world wide web. But no luck too. Now, I'm lazy to try to look for her again.
Another friend of mine that I managed to find via WWW doesn't want to be contacted.Ouch! I have a few of my closest friends that just want to be left alone. Hubby told me to ignore them and respect their wishes. Of course I'm hurt and angry with them. But I slowly learn to let them go. Life is too short for all these silly unimportant things. You see, I have a very good skill at ignoring things. Swept them under the carpet. Yeps! But from him also I learnt how to differentiate things that is suitable to be swept under the carpet.
Until today, I still have this hope to bump into my old school friends. Friends that I have lost contact with. But still luck wasn't on my side. Why can't I bump into them when I used the LRT or at any shopping complexes be it in KL or Seremban? Where did they all go?
I hope there will be a another school reunion. Not many of us made it to the 1st reunion held at Alson Klana Seremban couple of years back..

Friends who enriched us

Last week was one happy week for me as I got to be in touched in my old friends. Thanks to Facebook, I found most of my old friends when I was studying in univercity.. The excitement I felt was beyond words. I was feeling happy inside out since last Wednesday. And the happy feelings extended till today as I had small outing with my two closed friends on late Saturday afternoon.

Imagine seeing those familiar faces u had always seen during your uni years on facebook! And those familiar names too... I was grinning when one of my friends mentioned the name of one of our male friends.. Gosh! I have not heard that names in the last 15 years... He was one of the member of our matriculation executives club...The club was one of the active club that time..We always did motivational projects for highschool kids around Kedah&Perlis..

As expected most of us are happily married with children. But I didn't expect the hear this one sad news. One of my girlfriends is now a divorcee with two children . And the things that I keep on seeing like a common thing is that they married their own partner from the uni years. I just dont understand why did their marriages cannot last forever... Anyway, what important now she is happy with her current life.

Back to my outing with Ro & Nurru on Saturday petang at KLCC, I just wanna say alhamdulillah because we did to do it. I'm happy to see Nurru getting promoted to be senior lecturer while Ro is finally now well payed from a new sms company. I pity Ro for she was paid peanuts at the old company even when she had worked there for more than 5 years.

Seeing Nurru dressing like a model ( plus she got that model height actually) since the day we know her, me & Ro never thought that Nurru would end up being a lecturer. In fact she too didn't see herself in that profession actually in the 1st place . But now she loves doing researches & lectures. Ooh! My model-like friend has produced 2 books so far.. Now this mother to two boys are on PHD study leave. I even told her that I want to attend one of her lectures!

I have always believe that no matter how busy we are with our family matters, we still need to put a side some of our precious time for friends. Actually friends-outing is one of my new year resolutions . There are still more of my friends ( be it from highschool or uni years) that I have lost contact that I wish to see again. I dont mind if we cant meet up. So long as we can stay in touch via emails or phone calls will do for me.

So have anyone heard this name before " Norita Suraya " ? I dreamt of her when I was pregnant with my 1st child.

p/s : to those who loves choc milkshakes, please buy yourself one from California Pizza Kitchen @ KLCC. It's heavenly creamy chocolaty and milky!

Akhirnya Kini Pasti

Finally last nite the much waited reunion happened. This reunion was 1st planned long time ago. But then, it never happened because almost everyone has this-and-that to do.. We all joked about this reunion as it was an impromptu one. I only knew it at lunch time yesterday from Pija. Got a shocked to hear her on the other line as she never calls me from her office number. Normally it is me who called her.

So alhamdulillah, I got to see all my best friends from my university days except one, Yati who now lives and work in Sabah.. Missed not having her there last nite. Out of 5 people last nite, only one is living&working in Kedah. Ida came down on tuesday to do her raya shopping. Her visits too was a last minute plan. So that is why last nite get together was a last minute one.

Alhamdulillah also I have my MIL at my house. At least hubby&Arissa has company while I'm out having dinner. I hate having to leave both of them at home. I dont think I would have come to the reunion if my MIL wasn't there at my house. Hubby gave the green light when I told him about the dinner. He will said yes even if his mom wasn't there with us. It was him all this while who keep pushing me to plan for my reunion.

Met them at Jusco Cheras Selatan. Me & pija had to come all the way from KL . Lin&Syikin stay around Bangi . Ate at Pizza hut . Reminiscing the good old days.. Pija reminded me about our eating trip at McDs during the exams week. We drove almost 50kms from campus just to eat McDs's burgers a day before our exams. Tgh stress waktu tuh people..

And they all reminded me of how I switched my course degree from IT to Business. Yes , people, for one good semester I was an IT student. My heart wasn't into IT. In fact I know my capabilities. Almost all my closest friends ( I have anotherIT group of best freinds) were doing IT at that time. Maybe that is the reason why they never failed to bring up this matter everytime we see each other.

Though I was the only one taking BBA course, all of us really clicked to each other. And all of us came from different states. I will be talking to one of them " aku/kau" , to another friend " I/y ou" , to another one "orang/awak"... so rojak...

Glad I was given the time to see them. Glad I made the time to see them just before Lin's departure to UK for the her PHD . ...
